Laura's goodbye potluck at the beach Written By Laura 08/29/2005 click for full size
It was a rainy weekend. Weather forecasters from all over the nation tried to warn us that our beach potluck would be doomed to failure. But it was not so.
Sue and I did the opposite of a rain dance to make sure it would stop raining long enough for us to have a successful Laura's goodbye/Sue and Jim's birthday potluck at the beach. We ate smoked salmon, brie, key lime pie, potato chips, cucumber salad, samosas, flourescent chicken (I mean chicken with some kind of seasoning), sushi, cookies and so much more. Yum! It was a lot of fun. People were talking to one another. Other people played frisbee (Chris played disc, of course, not frisbee). John chilled in his hammock. We also had two new members who showed up: Erika and Taro. Erika is human and she is very nice. Taro is a dog and he is very nice, as well. The pictures tell a story as told by Taro himself. Rain Rain Stayed away... This was so much fun, I was almost able to forget for a bit Laura is leaving. I was only slightly offended when Laura sang happy Birthday to Jim and didn't include me, Dang it, it was MY birthday first. But then after seeing the video of Jim covering his ears, I realized, maybe it wasn't a bad thing after all :) Later at the Pub this issue was resolved by Shaf who requested the band give me a shout out. Having Happy Birthday sung by a Reggae band in a Texas Twang is hard to surpass. Special thanks to Claudia for the cake, it was really yummy and to all the "rain go away" dancers. It worked!! |
