Event DetailsThis second big-screen outing for the adventurous Muppets finds them in London hunting down jewel thieves while staying at the city's most cheerfully derelict dive, the Happiness Hotel. Filled with lavish song and dance (and swimming!) numbers, this Jim Henson-directed feature packs in more action than its predecessor THE MUPPET MOVIE, and offers viewers the rare thrill of seeing the cantankerous Charles Grodin swoon over Miss Piggy. But THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER has a lot more going for it: hilarious cameos by John Cleese, Peter Falk, and Oscar the Grouch, among others; The Avengers' Mrs. Peel herself, Diana Rigg; Miss Piggy parading down a catwalk and driving a motorcycle through a brick wall (cue the "hog on a hog" jokes); and the whole muppet gang on bicycles. Filled not only with goofy jokes and slapstick for the kiddies, but also the sophisticated comedy and pun-heavy wordplay that has always endeared The Muppets to adults (Kermit to Miss Piggy: "You're overacting. You're hamming it up."), THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER is the perfect film for kids, or anyone who remembers being a kid. |
