Mega Maze Mania

It turned out to be a fantastic day to get lost in eight acres of corn stalks. The stalk were brown but in good shape and the ground was solid with a few muddy spots. And there were still ears of corn. Unfortunately, they were not serving any corn because it was too late in the season.

As soon as we arrived, we grabbed a quick bite to eat. Meanwhile, Jason tried his skill at the pyramid puzzle’s most difficult side and, well, failed, despite help from everyone. If we had only looked to our right, we could have cheated off the answer. But we got the easy and intermediate sides. Hey, Pyramids have four sides don’t they?

We made our way into the maze and watched the instructional video. Then we split into two teams. The Vicious and Delicious team – Jason, Jack, David, Liz and me – went left while The Abominable Snowmen – Bill, Matt, Sharon, Kim, Arty and Opie – went right. And we wouldn’t see each other for quite a bit of time.

The theme to this year’s maze was The Lost Tomb. The Egyptian theme involved a four-hole mini golf course with pyramids, snakes, spiders and a sphinx. There were hieroglyphics, mummies, sarcophagi, slide, shooting gallery, ring toss, ball toss and zip line.

Everyone did a good job of getting the clues through the maze. Vicious and Delicious got all the rubbings except #6, answered the kid quest, the hieroglyphics, all the bridges except 7 and all the questions except #9. The Abominable Snowmen got all the rubbings except #2, answered the kid quest (but needed help from V&D for #3), the hieroglyphics, all the bridges and all the questions except #2. But upon further review, the two teams compared notes, stayed in the maze despite knowing the way out, and got the missing pieces. So it was a draw.

Everyone decided to go to dinner and we found a local pub called Tailgaters. We had a nice, sloooooooow meal and watched Brett Favre chew up the Packers as well chewed our meals.

I can’t speak for everyone else on the ride back, but our ride was slightly eventful. Jason had a 7 p.m. show (turns out yours truly got called to the stage that night too) so we were racing back down Route 2. We got stuck behind a car that had strapped a mattress to its roof. It was a tad unsecured and when the car went fast, the mattress rose up and acted like a sail. It looked like it was definitely going to fly off and land on the roof of my car. And because of construction, it was a single lane and we were stuck behind this car for about five miles.

But the mattress stayed put, Jason got to his show and the day came to a close.

Thanks to all for coming out and making this a great day.
