The Watchmen - Viewed 3567 Times

Exceeded expectations. Good movie. Everybody laugh. Everybody cry. Good story. Good dialogue. Almost just like the comic, but better. I've never seen super heroes look better. Golden age masked men. Beautiful super heroes, ugly souls. American nostalgia 1940s, 50s, and 60s with guilt. Great soundtrack. 3 short hours. Ending doesn't make much sense.

Characters are amalgamations:

Rorshach= The Question + Batman

Nite Owl= Blue Beetle + Batman + Clark Kent

The Comedian= Peacemaker + Nick Fury/Captain America + The Joker + G. Gordon Liddy

Silk Spectre= Nightshade + Black Canary + Phantom Lady

Dr. Manhattan = Captain Atom

Ozmandias = Peter Canon Thunderbolt + Superman + Lex Luthor

Terrible, needless nudity and sex scenes which added nothing to the film, poor story telling, abysmal characters and plot, haven't seen a worse movie in 2 years

...and this is one of the stupidest movies ever. And I'm a big fan of the genre. Maybe I'd get some greater appreciation had I read the graphic novels but they could have cut this movie in half and it would have beem twice as good. A few stars because I liked the sound editing and creative use of gore. But the plot (?) was weak and what were the superpowers? I think it was the ability to withstand the pain.

Why didn't they put any shorts on Dr. Manhattan? It was very distracting have his blue wiener on the screen (thank God I didn't see it on IMAX!).

Bad storytelling (the comic book was even worse), needless sex and violence, the "superheroes" had no powers, and a huge disappointment after all that hype.

at 04/01/09 2:47:24 -- LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this movie is only meant for certain people. Its one of those stories you either get and absolute love or you dont't get it and absolutely hate it. You kinda have to be a person to embrace the darkness of the world and people and find the beauty in that. If you are a carebear hugging lovey dovey person, then yeah I suggest you don't watch this movie or read the graphic novel. I read the graphic novel before seeing the movie, and really it made such a difference. If I did not read the story beforehand I probably would have only appreciated the visual entertainment, and not really understand the depth of the characters and story. I think the graphic novel is brilliant, and the movie is a great tribute to that story visually and artistically. I love the intro of the movie, well done!!! I did not mind the violence or the sex scenes, that was true to the story, and it keeps it raw, but I did however think it was very uncomfortable to see the movie while children were in the movie theater. Parents: do not take your children to Watchmen, its not Superman or Spiderman.

I understand that this was based on a graphic novel so I didn't expect to be a "colorful" film. I liked the way they kept the music up to remind us of the era. There were a few things that confused me, but I guess I should have read the book. I did not pull away from the movie thinking, Hurray, must see again.

ALTHOUGH...
I did like the ending because it basically made you think. Was the bad guy actually a bad guy, or was he really a good guy? Left many questions instead of making your mind up for you.

Wow! There's a lot of hate here for this movie! I guess if you never read the graphic novel and didn't know what to expect I can understand that but having read the novel and being a fan of it I think this is hands down the best 'comic' movie made to date. It was very true to the graphic novel (including the violence and sex) with just a slight change at the end that didn't impact the outcome or my enjoyment of the film in any way. It is a very unique and enjoyable film and if you don't mind graphic violence and some gratuitous sex I highly recommend checking it out.

My boyfriend and I were so bored when we were watching the movie. We wanted to walk out and I really do not understand the hype for this movie.

at 03/15/09 8:33:00 -- Over the top...

I saw Watchmen on Friday. I had never read the comic version and so I expected something benign like Spiderman or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. To me, it was over the top violent and the graphic sex scene in the middle was a bit much. It was pointed out to me after that it was by the same folks who did Sin City. I actually wanted to wash my brain and only see Pixar films from now on. But that's me. Anyway, the ending was unique and the 3 hours passed quickly. Overall, I won't recommend it, buy the DVD or see it again.

I thought it had way too much violence and useless sex, even for an over the top scifi/comic movie. It made Sin City look like a walk in the park. Maybe it's just because I wasn't expecting that level of "trueness" to the graphic novel. But it wasn't fun in any way shape or form. I don't need to relive the cold war and watch people beat each other up for three hours. Thanks, I just re-lived the 80's and the alternate reality is even more depressing than our own? Thumbs down.

If I could put minus 10 meet in stars I would! This movie was horrible... and the fact that we bought the tickets early...stood outside the doors for another hr so we had good seats... and then 3 plus hrs of watchmen... ugh, I suggest no one see this movie. It was atleast 4 hrs of my life I can't get back.
