Great movie. It s a great movie, simply because it shows the real life of the majority of human being in underdeveloped countries which they struggle everyday to survive. The real life of more than 90% of the world population who share less than 10% of the world wealth...
People from northern countries should think deeply after seeing this movie.........some people must think about changing their way of life
Hard to believe this won all those awards. Very Dark, dirty, depressing. 14yr old girl prostitute, drug dealers at 15, murderes at 16 and that's a lifestyle improvement.
OMG! This movie is so Fricken Great! It has just about everything! It really works your emotions! You can't help but laugh at times. I loved the fact that it seemed so REAL! Not like all the other made up movies in Hollywood these day!
The only thing I really enjoyed was the cinematography and music. It was not a "feel good" movie. I thought that "Call Center" was a much better film about India....

Fun, hollywood escape, no politics!
Great rhythm! Slumdog Millionaire reminds me of Trainspotting and Run Lola Run - deliriously entertaining, awesome soundtrack! A real escape movie, for the main character, and for the audience!
An interesting side note: 26 years ago, the Best Picture Oscar went to another movie set in India: Gandhi. A much different movie, eh!
Well, I dint like tyhe movie at all, in no it was a "feel good" movie. I actually saw people leaving the hall as they couldnt tolerate it anymore. Really focussed on only the negative side of India and for someone who doesnt know India that well would carry that impression after the movie. Child labour, child prostituion, mistreating women and wht not.Those negative things do exist there but not all at once and not at such an extent. Never heard of anyone throwing a small boy off the train for a peice of bread!
I would say this movie falls into the "cute" category. Frankly, for all the hype it received I would have been happier watching it at the home of one of our MiPLers who hosts Bollywood movies so we could have broken into dance, esp. during the credits :-). The children in this movie stole the show. The musical score is good. The story is typical boy-meets-girl with the added moral to the story being that everything we do in life takes us to where we are today. I am not sure it was worthy of "Best Picture" but then again, who knows how/why that voting works. If you miss this in the theatre, host an event and show it at home for your group.
This is a hyped-up movie. The characters are not fully developed. How come all the "street kids" speak like middle and upper middle class Indians ? There is not much humanity but instead the characters are all stereo-types. In the movie the scenario of present day Mumbai is twisted. The director has taken from 3 very good movies, "City of God" for its shooting style and intensity, "Salaam Bombay" for the characters of the street kids and "Cyclo" for some of the shooting style and the underworld, in making this movie. None of those movies had/have the hype of this one because they were not in English and/or Hollywood.
i can't say enough about this movie. It's truly an amazing work of art. It kept me at the edge of my seat hoping for a happy ending. I laughed, I cried. Such a good movie! Very deserving of all its accolades.

Slumdog Millionaire
I'll second the last review.
I saw Slumdog at the Charles last week - it was great the way everything was tied together and kept me on the edge of my seat. Great pace throughout the whole movie and development of the main characters.
