    Your Interests
movies, theater, tennis, hiking, volleyball, softball, biking (am a "for fun" only person with the sports - none of it even remotely competitively), reading, traveling, music, photography, writing, ROAD TRIPS
    Favorite Music
I like pretty much some of everything (less of rap and country although I'll give an initial listen with an open mind to anything) - am allergic to oompah bands and yodeling though.
    Favorite Books
The list would be too long - read some of everything fiction and non. Have allergy similar to that of the oompah bands for romance novels and the self-help du jour stuff.
    Favorite TV Shows
Well, they're off the air except in reruns - Frasier and West Wing, Six Feet Under. Hate reality TV. Wish I had the kind of cable to be able to watch things like Deadwood, Entourage, the Sopranos etc. Love love love a BBC4 comedy, Spaced (can only get it on DVD I think, but might also be on YouTube) It's Simon Pegg, Nick Frost & a lot of the other Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz crew before they hit the big screen. A total hoot - check out a sampling here in my profile (my video) Guilty pleasures: Two & a Half Men, The Big Bang and the New Adventures of Old Christine, Saving Grace.
    Favorite Movies
Also too long to list - will list instead the things that I didn't like that made some people look at me like some kind of nut from another world: not fond of any of the Star Wars (but adored Close Encounters), not fond of any of the Kill Bills or the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy. Don't mind reading subtitles, but don't mind not having to either. My openess with movies is kind of like it is with music - will generally entertain most notions. Not a huge sci-fi fan though . . . but still, will give new ones a try. Like obscure things (Local Hero, Jesus's Son, Dandelion, Snow Cake, A Simple Plan, Lone Star), gritty things (all things Cohen Brothers, Requiem for a Dream, Goodfellas, Amores Perros) fluff fun (the Big Lebowski, Animal House, Bandits, State & Main, About a Boy, Coldcomfort Farm, Almost Famous, Laurel Canyon), and maybe an all time favorite, American Beauty.

    About Me
Originally from Delaware - moved to Phoenix when I was 14 or 15. Tried like crazy to hate it for the first year - only to discover that I loved it. Miss the ruggedness of the actual Arizona land and the HUGE sky. Really breathtaking beauty there and still lots of unoccupied space when you get away from the Valley (where Phoenix is). Unfortunately, am a person with too many places to love. If I'm in one, am homesick for another - hence my love of road trips, no matter how small. My dream job would be to travel around the world living like the natives, attending all the film festivals and concerts, and taking photos (not necessarily the postcard type) and writing about it. If you know of anyone who would like to finance this for me, let me know! (That darn "Where's Matt" guy got the job I wanted, but hey! He's gotta get tired of living out of a suitcase sometime, right?) I have friends of all ages (early 20's through 70's) and am usually around people younger than myself. This may, of course, simply be a sign of a serious case of Peter Pan syndrome or an innate inability to age gracefully. I must confess that a common pasttime in Phoenix that I miss is Friday happy hour. Sometimes I am kind of lonesome for my favorite English pub and the folks there. Miss my camping ladies best buds and our annual weekend away from the men. In 2001 I went through what is now known as the "great divestiture" (of most worldly goods) in an attempt to relocate to Budapest. Managed to live there for 4 months and would be there (might be there) still if I could have managed the visa to allow me to work there. Long story and I won't go into it further - after all, I just met you!
    Why I joined
Have been here for 5 years and it seems that I'm generally around one set group of people and the activities are not as varied as I would like (for instance, they're generally not much for happy hour). I always had lots of friends from different groups of people in Phoenix, so could always find someone willng to do pretty much anything. Wanting to expand my circle of friends here.
My Best MEETin event story ( please only fill in after you have been to an event )
I had a great time at the Bristol Pub Crawl! Love Bristol, it started at one of my all-time favorite places, Aiden's, the folks were fun, the last bar had a great cover band & a nice fellow bus-riding meep reminded me when it was time to head up and catch the last one home (thanks John - I might still be there!) Also had a really great time at a traveling night of beer and music. It started at a bar somewhere near PC (don't ask - I was totally lost in some pretty scary parts of town before I found it), from there to the Living Room for some good alt music, then after the music was done, on to Lily Marlene's to close the place down. Great night, lots of fun. And last, but not least, great post-kickball BBQ & bonfire at Patrick's house. There's always something fun to do and nice people to hang out with. Killer Pre-St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl! Bocce on Federal Hill rules - good fun & far enough away from the outdoor karaoke on the square to snark about the performances without any danger of them hearing.

Barbara is a beautiful, fun lady that I was lucky enough to get to meet last night at the Pub Crawl. I look forward to seeing her again at the next event. Cheers!

I have only been to one event with Barbara, but she is already one of my favorite people. Irreverant, witty, smart, and hysterically funny, she can riff with a fellow snarks, or provide hours of entertainment for those who might be more shy. She was also able to perform the rare feat of actually stunning me into silence with her "Story to End All Stories."

I'm always happy when I see Barbara's name on the RSVP list for one of my events. She's intelligent, classy, witty, and easy to talk to. If you see her at an event, make sure you go out of your way to meet her. You'll be glad you did :)

I liked Barbara's style and easy smile from the moment I met her. The fact that she likes indie rock sealed the deal for me...no doubt a very cool woman. The fact that she closed down the bar was merely icing on the cake. Looking forward to hanging with her much more--and getting the obviously juicy details about her time in Budapest.

Aside from being an all around great person, Barbara introduced me to the dark & stormy, which proved to be an excellent companion for the novice dart thrower. Many thanks...

Barabara is a wonderful woman, and absolutely soeasy to talk to. She's funny and smart, and she more than makes up for my lack of darts playing abilities. Here's to hoping she's at many more events! Paul "Hey...people just explode sometimes. Natural causes"

    <-( Tonya says ;-)
Barbara is wicked nice, easy to chat with and better at darts then she leads on =) Hope to see her at many more events!
