58th Annual Greek Festival Written By Peter 10/03/2009 click for full size
Another year, another Greek festival! Scores of people flooded the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church grounds, and a group of MiPLer's where right among them.
It seems that we were able to sample most of the foods that were available, from lamb, Gyros, Souvlaki, Spanakopita, to the sweeter things such as Baklava, Bougatsa, and of course Loukoumades, the official ancient Olympic doughnut. This sweet threat dates back to the first Olympic games in 776 B.C. and were one of the earliest prizes awarded to the winners. These “honey tokens” are the earliest mention of any kind of pastry in European literature. Pretty amazing, that they are still in such high demand after 2785 years. More Photos
