Event Details UPDATE: Although this event is full, put yourself on the waiting list if you are interested. Last time we had so many people on the waiting list that we recruited a second group of hosts for a second new members dinner the same night. *** New to Meet in Portland and interested in connecting with new people in a small setting? Join four experienced Meetin members for dinner at Pambiche. Attendees must have attended NO MORE THAN THREE EVENTS. If you have attended more than three events at the time you RSVPed, we will delete your RSVP to make room for people who are truly new to MIPL. If this event is full, RSVP anyway. Last time we had enough interest in the new member dinner that we recruited another set of hosts, and they posted a separate new members dinner on the west side. Feel free to ask questions about what other events are like, hosting events of your own, how to navigate the website, and whatever else comes to mind. Or just forget the question agenda and relax and socialize. Pambiche is a fabulous Cuban restaurant located at the end of 28th Street's "restaurant row." From the website: "The cuisine of Cuba, commonly termed comina criolla, is the result of European influence on New World conditions. With roots not only in European but also in African and Indigenous Caribbean cooking, Cuban Creole cuisine is a seasoned combination of tropical elements." From personal experience: The banana salsa and hot sauce on the empanadas are a killer combination, and the lemonade served with a stalk of sugarcane is especially yummy. Somehow, I have learned to save room for dessert. Please be aware that Pambiche does not take reservations so we may have a bit of a wait for a table. We might wind up splitting into two groups of six. FYI: Your host will be there. I've just RSVPed on the "help host" event posting instead. A few etiquette points about RSVPs: We are keeping the numbers low to foster get to know each other. Since small dinners tend to fill up quickly, and we may have a waiting list, please update your RSVP no later than the day before if you cannot attend so that someone else can take your spot--or so that we can update the reservation if the event is not full. Be aware that if you RSVP as a "maybe," you could wind up on the waiting list if you enough people RSVP so check your status before coming. You can do this by clicking on "My Events" on the left side of your screen. That link will bring you to a screen that shows the events for which you have RSVPed. You should see something that says 11/15/06 New Members Dinner @ Pambiche(maybe)(Change). Click on the change link. If the event is full, a window will pop up that tells you that. (Unfortunately, you can't do anything else from that "event is full menu" so if you want to change your RSVP, you would need to go to the event posting to go on the waiting list.) A couple other quirks about MIPL's waiting list system: 1) If an event is listed as "full," you may still have a good chance of getting in, since someone invariably unRSVPs. 2) If you are on the waiting list and space opens up, you have to manually change your RSVP status yourself. The website won't automatically move you into the open spot. 3) If I see that a spot is open, I can upgrade your RSVP. If I do this, you will receive an email letting you know you are now on the Attendees list. 4) Hosts can't tell between "maybes" and "waited listed" attendees. In your comments, please indicate something about really wanting to go if space is available so that your host can move you into an open spot before someone else snags it, or note that you aren't sure if you can make it, if that's what's going on with you.
