Event DetailsSTAND-UP COMEDY featuring Brent Weinbach from his new album THE NIGHT SHIFT...with stand-up comedy guests Mary Van Note from S.F. and Andy Wood from PDX. After, if interested, please join us for food/drinks with Mary Van Note. We will be at the ticket counter at 7:45 with a MIPL sign. Brent Weinbach's stand-up comedy is weird. He does a lot of characters, he's physical, and his humor is absurd. Here are some other words to describe Weinbach: deadpan, silly, obscure, unconventional, smart, stupid, post-modern, grass roots, Berlin, 1980's, tennis, bike riding, Virgo, Rygar, etc. The list goes on and on. Brent began his comedy career in the underground San Francisco scene, but now tours all over the United States and abroad. Brent was a winner and recipient of the Andy Kaufman Award at the HBO Comedy Festival, has toured with the Comedians of Comedy, appeared at the Coachella and Bumbershoot festivals as well as Just For Laughs in Montreal, and was the creator and star of the Super Deluxe web series "Weinbach in Wonderland." "...a borderline-offensive yukster for a post-multicultural era." -San Francisco Bay Guardian "...obscenely, disturbingly brilliant." -L.A. Weekly "weird, scary, hilarious" -Time Out NY About "The Night Shift"... A year in the making, this is not a traditional standup recording. Rather, it's more of a Joe Frank-influenced long-form radio-play comedy concept album — a 64-minute, interwoven mix of in-studio routines replete with Nintendo 8-bit inspired instrumental backing tracks, live club material recorded at The Purple Onion, bent phone messages, interstitial weirdness, and songs. Brent, a former professional piano player, composed and performed all his own instrumental backing tracks for this record and his three original piano/vocals numbers have a surprisingly sweet and melancholy Tin Pan Alley feel to them. It's safe to say there is not another contemporary comedy recording like this one. www.brentweinbach.com www.maryvannote.com Brent is f#*%&*! hilarious!!! I have seen him perform live over 1/2 dozen times and he brings me to tears every time, he is literally this funny! - Andrea (MIPL Host) P.S. My sister Mary will be performing as well. Of course she is super funny too, and I don't believe I am being partial. :) Come see for yourself! |
