Drive-in Movie Night on the Superstructure

On Saturday night, a bunch of people came to my house to watch a couple of movies. No, we didn't all pile into the living room. That would've been too easy. Instead, I set up a big screen above the fence in the back of my back yard and we watched them outside, drive-in style.

Don't ask me who all was there, because I lost track. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone, so my apologies for that. I'm guessing we had about 40 people or so out there. My street was packed. People parked in my yard. People were sitting on each others laps.

Okay...people weren't really sitting on each others laps, but seriously...there were a lotta people over here.

We got things underway around 6 with some chillin' and grillin'. People helped me put a dent in the large stash of hot dogs and hamburgers that I had here, and we just hung out until it was time to get the show on the road.

While waiting for the 8pm showtime to get here, we watched some classic Looney Tunes cartoons. Why? Because that's how they did it in drive-ins in the old days. And because I just like cartoons. Cartoons are awesome.

At 8pm, we got things underway. About 10 people stayed up on the Superstructure while another 25-30 filled up my back yard with lawn chairs and blankets. We got the double-feature started with one of John Cusak's first movies, "Better Off Dead." And after a brief intermission, we watched the great "Office Space."

And now, a message from our "lost and found" department:

Someone left behind two NASCAR seat cushions, and someone else left behind a bottle opener. If you belong to any of these items, lemme know and we can make arrangements to get them back to you.

I wanna give a big public "thank you" to everyone who helped make it happen. DL provided the projector and hooked everything up. The Wingmistress (Terri) loaned me her stereo and speakers and helped me build the screen. Amy G loaned me her speakers so we could have a second set run (one for the people down in the yard, and another for those up on the Superstructure). Thank you all very much for helping to make this happen.

And another big "thank you" to everyone who helped clean up afterward. I don't know who all took part in that, because I was too busy hiding so I wouldn't have to do any of the cleaning myself. But be sure you know how much I appreciate it. Thank you.

And finally, thanks to everyone who came. There are few things I enjoy more than having good people over my house for a good time, and I was very glad to have you all here. :)

Until next time (and yes, there will be a next time), I want my two dollars, and I'd like my stapler back, please.

Movie night...
It was a real blast John, thanks! A great way to tie up and say good-bye to summer. How about one to welcome the fall?

Barb
Agreed!
While I got there too late for the burgers and dogs, this was MORE fun than going to the actual drive-in. Thanks for constructing the screen and having us all over and thanks to all others who helped you with their loaned equipment. Can't wait to do it again next summer!

Terri
Hoorah!
This was probably one of the coolest things I did this summer! Fantastic time and I can't wait to do it again!
