Invasion of the Band Snatchers Written By Kim 02/22/2009 click for full size
LOUD LOUD LOUD! I think my ears are still ringing. Through the smoky haze of the 31st Street Pub, a rowdy gang of Meeps took to the dance floor (or the safety of our back table) to experience five local bands re-create five monster bands on the stage: The Stooges, Thin Lizzy, the Rolling Stones, Cheap Trick and Motley Crue.
The Dregs, with front man, Vinny, were first to take the stage. Vinny (as Iggy Pop) spent little time actually on stage, however. Instead, wearing low-riding ripped and holed jeans and no shirt, he showed off his flexibility for all in the front with a number of disturbing, yet entertaining, contortions and a lot of rolling around on the floor. It was Iggy reborn, complete with blood running down his back from some stray bit of glass on the floor. For more information, contact me or Mary; we were front row witnesses - oh, my! Next up, the Vagabonds as Thin Lizzy. I'll admit, I know absolutely nothing about Thin Lizzy, and apparently no one else in our gang was particularly interested, so this ended up being a good time to say hello and mingle as our group continued to grow. Lets see if I can list all the attending Meeps: Co-hosts - Kim and Chad, Dave, Kat, Gordon, Jack, Dawn, Robin, Mary and her friend - Terri, Gary and Linda, Pete, Jenn, Chelsea, DL, Doug, Barry, Shelle and Michelle. I think that was everyone. Who did I miss? The third band was responsible for us all being there. A few weeks ago a group of us stumbled upon 28 North playing at the Thunderbird Cafe. They were a lot of fun and mentioned the Invasion numerous times throughout their show, and an event was born. 28 North chose to sing us songs of the Stones. It wasn't long before that brought the majority of our Meeps to the front of the dance floor where our jumping, bouncing, singing and woo-wooing really got things going. Hooray for 28 North! Donning a purple pin-striped suit and some tricked out hair, the front man for the CosmoSonics was ready to bring us some Cheap Trick. Having the bands get into character really added to the performances, I have to say. They opened with Surrender and the house was rockin' again. The Pub was clearing out and a lot of Meeps had gone home for the night when the Atomic Drops took their turn as Motley Crue. Again, it was the costumes that made the band. Or maybe that really was Vince Neil up there on stage? Another crazy MiPGH event. Thanks to everyone for coming out and getting crazy with us! Now let's let the pictures tell our story. Thanks SO much to Doug, Dave and Dawn for having their cameras handy! More Photos

Wild Looks like you has a wild time. But don't be hatin' on Thin Lizzy, they had a brief moment in the sun in the mid 70s. |

Great write up Apparently I missed all of Iggy's contortions, which is a good thing I take it. I think 28 north was the best...Woo Woo...my ears have finally stopped ringing. Thanks guys for a fun night of dancing! |
