Last year I posted this as an event. And we had a good turnout. This year Folino's and Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community will get together to prepare and serve a Thanksgiving Dinner (turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, And any appetizers you would like to bring along. This meal is provided free of charge to anyone and everyone. You don't have to be a member of the church, live in the south side or even be destitute or homeless. Also I would like to add that there is no religious agenda pushed at this event. It is a group of people getting together to celebrate Thanksgiving with those less fortunate. Many of the people that attend are elderly, homeless, those that would other wise be unable to afford a traditional dinner and even people that live alone in the neighborhood and are just looking for someone to spend the day with. You can volunteer to help set up the dining area, serve the meal, or just sit down and spend time with people who are lonely and just reaching out for a little company. Here is a list of what type of help they are looking for this year: But keep in mind they are going to try to limit the # of volunteers this year as last year we had so many it was hard to find work for everyone. Here's what I need: 1) Pies-- to be made at home and then dropped off at Folino's Wednesday night 2) Volunteers for Thanksgiving the day of: -Set Up (10 a.m. to noon) -Getting the food from Folino's Thursday morning (10 a.m. to noon-- sometime in that time frame) -Serving (noon to 2 p.m.) -Playing games/interacting with kids (noon to 2 p.m.) -Clean Up (2 p.m. to 3 p.m. or so) |
