"Soup's On!" Chinese Hot Pot Event Written By Erica 11/28/2006 click for full size
We all met at Mon Land Hot Pot City in San Gabriel on Sunday which turned out to probably be the first cold day of the year. What could be better on a blustery cold afternoon than a Chinese Hot Pot facial?
Mon Land Hot Pot City is the lesser known hot pot place (Little Sheep, which is right across the street, is wildly popular) but it never fails to satisfy. Here is how hot pot works: you get two types of broth, one spicy, and one rich and mild. The two broths are placed in a yin yang shaped vessel and then placed on a burner. When the cauldron boils, you put in a variety of items: meats, seafood, dumplings, vegetables, noodles, many different types of beancurd, and herbs. You can order as little or many items that you would like. On this day we ordered sliced lamb and pork, shrimp balls, egg dumplings, tofu, daikon radish, ong choy, shungiku, enoki mushrooms, and vermicelli noodle bundles. For side dishes we ordered potstickers, scallion pancake, and lamb pancakes and dumplings. Every thing was delicious and this feast only costs us $15 per head, tax and tip inclusive. It was a memorable afternoon; what could be better than good food and good company? More Photos

A meal to remember... Yum! Looking at the pictures makes me want to go back really soon. Thanks for posting this restaurant outing. My first time experiencing a Chinese Hot Pot, but definitely not my last. :) |
