Hello???
Just curious what happened to the Los Angeles group? A year ago there were so many events and people were all over the board. Just wondering where is everybody?

Don't let this group die (like OC). Gotta' keep it going. Trust me, I know about lulls in groups. When I was in San Antonio, it almost disappeared but we revived it.

Show me that people are actually out here! :)

all we meed to know is who the lead is and we can give them admint rights to do everything. DC does not and can not admint an la city. The gloabl webmaster can help out with this when a lead is picked for the city. But with out this you are right the city has no direction.

Once a city has a functioning local admin team, the city becomes self-governing, and the local admin team approves Event Planners. The Board and the web team prefer for cities to be as autonomous as possible, but you have to have at least 2 volunteers to run a city. Things only default to D.C. when there is a vacuum at the local level.

MEETin's value proposition is entirely different from meetup's. I personally do not participate in meetups, because I prefer the "one-stop-shopping" variety approach of MEETin. I know a lot of people who feel the same way. With MEETin, you can do a little bit of everything; you don't have to join 5 different subject-specific meetups.

I also love MEETin's global reach, which meetup does not offer. Thanks to MEETin and events like the annual Celebration and Mardi Gras, I now have friends in Sacramento, San Antonio, Montreal, Philadelphia, Baltimore, D.C., Rochester, London, and Raleigh. I never would have met these awesome people any other way.

If anyone is interested in forming a local admin team and trying to rev-up MiLA again, let us know!

This used to be a fab group. I think Meetup.com has taken over the analog social events in the LA area. There, anyone can become a Leader/Event Planner and do their own thing, they don't need to be approved by management in Wash. DC and are not bound by many rules of the head organization. With Meetup.com, they can create a group with virtually any topic. From Voodoo practitioners to Harry Potter book clubs to sake tasting groups, the interests are infinite.

The bizarre thing is that the Organizer actually has to pay Meetup.com a monthly fee...

Hey y'all!

I've recently posted a few new events recently, but there has been no response. When I joined, over a year ago, we had Abby, and before her Melody, keeping things going.

I posted a few events back then, but I got little to no response. Or worse, a very high "Flake Factor"--people who sign up for events and don't show up, never bothering to cancel their RSVP, call or email you.

Here's my opinion, and I have no research to prove this, but, most people will only attend events hosted by known entities (frequent hosts) or by people known to them. With dynamic personalities like Abby and Melody hosting events, people felt comfortable and motivated to join the bandwagon and host events of their own. They brought in many good event hosts. Sadly, both Abby and Melody have moved on.

It takes time (and frequent postings) for new hosts to build a following. While I am very popular at another website, I an an unknown entity here at MeetinLA, as evidenced by the lack of RSVPs to my events.

Still, I'll keep posting them because I believe people need this type of media outlet to meet people and make new friends.

This nation awaits a great leader. Hillary is right, the old dust decorated loyal hats are around, but like myself, are probably too busy these days to play hosts.

The Regional Directors (Danielle and Joel) are trying to keep things going in LA as best they can, but they need members who have some time to volunteer and who are interested in being active. I know they would love to have someone step up to try to get the chapter running again. If anyone is interested, please click on MiLA City Hall Help and send one of them a message! :-)

There's no leader for the group anymore. We had a great leader in the beginning, but she doesn't have time to do it anymore, neither do many of the us old skoolers these days.
