Toasts a Plenty @ The Tavern on West Gray Written By Jason 04/26/2006 click for full size Ok, so we had a slightly slow start due to the fact that yours truly couldn’t imagine there being two places with the name “Tavern”in them on the same stretch of West Gray. I kind of, well sort of . . . . posted the wrong location. Doh! (It has since been corrected for future use and used again I think it shall be.) Luckily we had some folks on a mission to toast . . . . and we overcame the setback. Didn't hurt that Amanda and Beth were both in possession of their cell phones : ) The latter technological aide helped get everyone to where Amanda and I had been waiting patiently – The Tavern @ 1340 West Gray @ Waugh (so sayeth the menus and the wall next to which I was perched) . . .with baited breath . . . ok, not bait . . . maybe a little bit of Captain Morgan/coke and popcorn on the breath . . . for everyone else to arrive. Well, Beth was first to join us as the other were finishing their drinks & closing their tabs @ Cecil’s (which was far inferior by all reports). Liz and Robert were soon to follow and the fair Marie had snuck right by us. No! I hadn’t had much to drink . . .yet. Just hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting either Liz or Marie before and am very glad they came out to visit with the MiH family. Russ arrived on the scene and rounded out our merry band of revelers. (If I have the sequence wrong please forgive me.) The crew enjoyed food, drink, chatter, and shenanigans for the next couple hours before calling it a night – a school night after all. The food there is surprisingly good: Amanda and I shared the chicken pesto pizza, Beth had a salad – chicken I think - and the rest ganged up on some chicken wings. On the beverage front we enjoyed some beers, snakebites [funny they use Guinness & Cider here instead of Harp and Cider], a few rounds of the ever-popular Surfer on Acid, and some top shelf Margaritas (of varying sizes) on the rocks, etc. The night was warm, but not too, and there was a breeze to help us take it in all in stride. All and all, I would say that it was a good way to toast to a weekend fast approaching. Perhaps we shall do it again there or in the vicinity. Cheers! Jason More Photos |
