Sushi Night! Written By Bronwen 08/12/2007 click for full size I arrived a bit after 6:30 (it's always nice when the photographer forgets her camera, eh?), but Tonya, her work friend Robert and Sonya were already there. Never being the types to hold up the food, the three of them had already gone through a bowl of edamame. I quickly joined the rush and ordered up some appetizers. Just as I was commenting on how unbelievably fantastic Osaka's fried oysters were, Anthony showed up -- about 20 minutes later, which is still 20 minutes early for him. Good job, A! Anthony was quickly followed by Lexie, Marlene and Ivy, and yay, everyone was soon ready to order. We went...how do you say?... crazy, when it came to ordering. It's definitely fair to say that everyone's eyes proved much bigger than their stomachs. I won't rehash everything, lest I get a craving and want to do sushi again. Like now. But highlights included Robert's super tuna, or escolar, which was so buttery that it seemed to literally melt in your mouth. My fried oysters were quite tasty, as was my sampler sushi platter, but my chopped spicy scallop rolls were...errr...spicy. Like crazy, hallucinagenic spicy. Sonya fell in deep-like with something called a crunch roll that was stuffed jalepenos and shrimp and seemingly had a coating for Capt'n Crunch. And if you can't beat that, Osaka has continued its tradition of bringing a small, free appetizer to the table, as well as your choice of ice cream. Mad points for Osaka! Being that Anthony, Ivy, Marlene and Lexie were at the far end of the table, I can't say just what they had, but I *do* know it was tasty! We enjoyed a largely family style affair, and everyone got the chance to sample a little of everything. By the end, most of us were literally pushing the food off of our plates, offering it up to the collective. I think I peeped Sonya trying falling into a sushi-induced nap. I know I was seeing dancing dragons and assorted singing koi. Can't wait to do it again, y'all! More Photos |
