Domo Arigato MEETin Peeps Written By Pam 12/18/2006 click for full size
Fourteen fearless wasabi warriors united on an unseasonably warm Sunday evening in McLean to try some of the best sushi in the DC area! A friendly mixture of newbies and oldbies trickled in and filled up a private party space in Tachibana, around a long table surrounded by Japanese screens. As we nibbled on little bowls of edamame, the ordering commenced. Our wait for the food gave us some time to prepare our mouths for a battle with the demon wasabi. Anecdotes were shared around the table about the behind-the-scenes world of restaurants (two restaurant professionals were present with us). To pass the time, some of us had the pleasure of playing with Yusef's giant candy cane. And, of course, lots of travel tales were told. Our meals looked scrumptious when they arrived, an artistic presentation of colorful slices of fish and shapely rolls arranged on wooden boards. We had enough to feed a whole army of warriors! The sushi was amazingly tasty and fresh. Our nasal passages survived the attack of the wasabi demon and we all lived to tell about it. It was great to see everyone who made it out, and we look forward to more culinary adventures again soon!
