Event Details Event Details HELP THE AINA: ALA WAI BOAT HARBOR CLEAN UP Have some time on a leisurely Saturday morning? Then come out and do your community good by helping scoop trash and debris out of the Ala Wai boat harbor. Tons of trash, liter, wood, and other rubbish gets stuck at the boat harbor so every couple of months a group goes down and helps scoops it out. This trash comes from all over Honolulu down the streams and if it builds up enough will slowly seep into Ala Moana and Waikiki Beaches. Teams with shovels, rakes, big nets and trash cans will be created and most of the trash will be removed. So if you have around 3hrs of free time come out and help keep our island beautiful. DA PLAN: Lets meet up in front of the harbor master's office at 7:45. I will provide a map one week before the event. The work goes until around 10ish. Everyone must sign a sierra club waiver. After the clean up: We typically walk or drive down to Waikiki and eat breakfast. Possible locations: Wailana Restaurant, Pagoda Breakfast Buffet, Eggs and Things...or let me know if you know of any other cheap breakfast eats in Waikiki! (No more Shorebird $6 breakfast buffet....I guess all good things must come to an end.) DA DETAILS: SIERRA CLUB Meet at 8:00 am at the Harbor Master's Office, between the 3rd and 4th row of boats behind the Ilikai Hotel. Park in street stalls or public lot ewa of Hilton lagoon. Wear sturdy shoes with gripping soles and bring a hat, thick rubber gloves, sunscreen, and water. All participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by their legal guardian to participate. NO SLIPPERS, closed toe shoes only. DA NECESSITIES 1. SUN PROTECTION-SHADES, HAT, SUN SCREEN 2. STURDY SHOES , NO SLIPPERS MUST BE CLOSED TOE. 3. GOOD GLOVES(SOME MAYBE PROVIDED) 4. BOTTLE WATER 5. HAND CLEANERS DA PARKING: Free parking at the Beach Park at the end of Holomoana St when available. Otherwise, cheap parking near the harbor masters office $0.50 for about 4 hours. Metered parking along Holomoana St also, but a litle pricier. Best bet is the first two option. Do not leave valuables in your car. Swim at your own risk- when in doubt don't go out. Look both ways before you cross the street. Chew your food well before you swallow. Etc..
