UPDATE 10/07: Wanna see this small film I was in? I'm incredibly awkward in it, but it was fun to make. Here it is (It's called "Hello, I'm Running for President"):

UPDATE 12/07: Just finished "God Is Not Great." This book is also not great, but definitely worthy of a read. As a companion piece, I'm reading "Who Wrote The Bible." Apparently I'm back in a nonfiction phase. Good to know. i have no idea where to begin. Just bring this up again next time. Tho "Snow Crash" was a damn good book, not just a damn good SciFi book. Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" was an essential alternate take on this country. "Too Loud a Solitude" - thanks H. Currently reading "The Ethical Slut." 9/07: Now reading Howard Zinn's latest collection of essays, as well as "Endgame."

Dr. Strangelove - hey where'd my list go? 2/07: Just saw "The Cats of Mirikitani" at BIFF. Wonderful documentary if you ever have the chance to see it (could be very hard to find). The 7Up-49Up Series was wonderful. "Fast, Cheap & Out of Control," "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill." I could go on forever...

    About Me
generally very dogmatic-averse, i try to avoid it in my own speech and that of those around me. Does that mean i think everything is relative? Mostly I just think we're all clueless and we should fess up to it a bit more (of course i'm an agnostic - what a silly question).
    Why I joined
to have a never ending source of folks to make fun of. Don't think i only dish it out - i can take it too (if you stop seeing me at events, you'll know you've reached my limit, and remember i'm sensitive).
My Best MEETin event story ( please only fill in after you have been to an event )
there was this time in Norway when i was trying to hitchhike all day, up above the arctic circle. Across the road this family was laying out the hay on fences to dry. Finally, after 5 or 6 hours i gave up trying to get a ride and just walked over there and said hello. I offered to help them with their hay drying. They had to go find the one member of the family who spoke some English. He said "No thanks, but you can stay here tonite in the spare room downstairs." Obviously they were afraid i'd totally ruin their hay. So i watched a while longer, got settled in my room and then came out and they eventually relented and let me help (and they were right - I was desperate at it). Then they invited me in for dinner and we smiled a bit and tried to chat. They were all surprised at my age (yup - they thought i was younger), except the patriarch who said you could tell by the eyes how old i was. After dinner I was invited down to the fjord to pick strawberries at midnight (well, it was still sunny, so why the hell not). Those were some of the best strawberries i ever picked, and the company was good too.

What a great dude! He was kind enough to let us into his home on Christmas eve......can't do better then that.

    <-( Christina says ;-)
Simply put: Adam makes me feel good whenever I'm around him. He's a great conversationalist, though half the time I wish a had an 'Adam to English' dictionary on hand. He's an awesome person and is typically up for anything. He makes me smile.

    <-( Janet says ;-)
I've always enjoyed talking to Adam even though there are times I have no idea what he is talking about. I do know I will walk away from our conversation having learned something and he in return. Little did I know he wrote newsletters for MID and that he was taking mental notes to include me in them, especially my hometown in NE. Be careful what you say, you may end up in the next newsletter. Keep it up Adam, your smile and charm are hard to resist.

    <-( Irene says ;-)
Writing a testimonial for Adam is a bit daunting...I'm not sure that I'm up for the task but have done a few crossword puzzles in the last few days, so am feeling extra smart. I don't remember when I met Adam but I know that he's become one of those people that I will seek out...I know that he'll always have something funny, interesting, or witty to say. Plus I like to think that he's happy to see me too. I do agree with Danielle in that I often feel like a dumb a$$ when I speak with Adam...but not because he's pretentious, but really because I still have a hard time distinguishing whether Adam is being sarcastic, facetious, or when (rarely) he's actually being serious. Adam is a great friend to have and although I may not have enough eloquence to convey that...I know he won't think twice of it.

    <-( Linda says ;-)
gosh what to say that hasn't been said already somewhere? adam is a good man with a big heart. he makes us laugh, which really is the best medicine~ and i would know. he helps friends. gives time and infinite patience and encouragement ("now the new rule is no saying "i suck" allowed here") to get us started in guitar. he once had enough duct tape for everyone at my swing dance event. and much more, but you should find out for yourself. we're lucky he's landed in our corner of the universe, i think.

    <-( Kristy says ;-)
Adam is easy going, generous, always approachable, chilled out, (passed out?), and definitely a good time. Don't let his obscure references intimidate you, and never mind the spots of nailpolish on his legs, he's one hell of a guy! Oh... but NEVER let him pick your nickname. p.s. Of course you can come! But there is a minimum allowable time commitment, and wings are required.

    <-( Phil says ;-)
I like Adam. On the plus side, he's wise, worldly, and witty. On the minus side, he tends to scam on my girlfriends. Luckily, he's all talk and no do. I learned this after I asked him to co-author a book with me. I had lofty hopes that our combined brainpower would synergistically generate chapter upon chapter of delightful entertainment. Instead, our partnership quickly fossilized to stagnation as each of us looked to the other to do 90% of the work. Then it occurred to us: Why suffer the drudgery of writing a book when we can just TELL people we're writing a book? Who's going to check? If we talk it up, people will assume the best. What a relief. No longer under pressure to create a tangible work product, we were free to fabricate and rehearse stories about its progress. Since then, Adam has taken his role as a fraud in full stride. He likes to discuss his nonexistent book at college functions to which he was not invited. He often holds book signings in random public places, where he sets up empty boxes of "sold out" editions and offers autographs to disinterested passers by. As a prominent educator in the Denver-Boulder area, Adam uses his guise as author to mentor young students on effective English usement. And of course, Adam enjoys well-deserved celebrity status with us here at MiD, so we don't mind it when he's constantly bumming us for rides. So the next time Adam bums you for a ride, ask him about his book.

    <-( Dwight says ;-)
Hmmm... Adam... I've spent the past few weeks talking to co-workers and friends about this guy that gives guitar lessons for free and is so great at it. Speaking as someone who has tried to inspire people and given instruments to friends, nieces and nephews in hopes to share my passion for music - Adam is such a great guitar teacher who gives his time and skill... He is so patient, so encouraging, so willing to go out of his way to ensure everyone is comfortable getting over that hump to get to the next level. Like the other testimonials - I want to be like Adam - a super-generous guy giving the gift of music. And in his modesty - we don't even realize the talent he has as a songwriter - great original stuff that should be shared with everyone. Maybe we should have the MID-Adam house concert soon (before he decides to move away to another country). And then finally there is his witty conversation and emails - so smart, clever and funny - at least the parts that I can understand and figure out!

    <-( Tom says ;-)
Adam cracks me up. No matter when you see him, he has something witty to say. I also found out that he sends secret signals to people. I think he's working on the Jedi mind trick. I would never normally write a testimonial for Adam, but after seeing him, I felt compelled to do it immediately. I just don't understand it. But make no mistake, Adam is a smart, funny guy who is a blast to be around.

    <-( Mame says ;-)
Adam is one in a million. A good person you should all spend some time with. Don't let his profile pictures scare you like I was before I met him. (I didn't know it was a picture from Halloween) I got to know Adam on the ski slopes, enjoyed his company at some other MiD events and now feel honored to call him my friend. He gives good advice like, "You should only have one goal at a time". Adam, I like the way I can say anything to you and you won't think I'm weird in a bad way, I like listening to your smooth voice and swishing past you on the slopes. I also look forward to more motorcycle rides. :)

    <-( Bridget says ;-)
Adam is the perfect blend of east-coast cynical smart-ass and eastern metaphysical philosophy! He is a patient teacher who is generous with his time and talent. Adam has inspired me to play music, and was the very first stranger in MID who took the time to get to know me. Adam, you quirky fellow, I am so thankful that I met you!

    <-( Amy says ;-)
I had a bad first-impression of Adam as a "Spanish-Speaking-Only-Just-To-Get-On-Your-Nerves" kind of guy and boy oh boy was I wrong. Not only is his mastery of the Spanish language superb, I have discovered a kind and thoughtful and fascinating and brilliant and funny and talented dear friend in this man! We connect on many levels and enjoy long discussions of this great thing called Life. I am thankful for his patience as he teaches me guitar, and am in heaven when he shares his musical talents with us....oh my can this guy sing with passion! I am very thankful to know you, Adam.

    <-( Danielle says ;-)
Adam has the ability to carry you through an entire conversation and leave you feeling smarter than you were when you started. (When actually you should feel as dumb as a box of rocks 'cause I have yet to converse with him about something that I know more about than he does.) If you want to know anything about anything, I'd say ask Adam. He'll probably tell you (in the language of your choice) and then refer you to some obscure website made just for your question. He's pretty damn truthful (yet kind), and funny - without a need for the attention. If I may borrow from Lynyrd Skynyrd, he's a free bird. Free, yet grounded. Simple, yet deep. And finally - like a fine wine, sophisticated yet unpretentious. If I had an appropriate comparison to cheese I'd throw that in too. Jesus it's getting deep. I don't know, I just like him, that's all. He is my good friend.

    <-( Holly says ;-)
I love Adam, if only for one simple reason: I’ve never had to explain to him why I call him ‘Palindrome.’ He once serenaded me in the hospital. He once disguised himself by changing his look. He once had a party that was so fun, my ride refused to leave so I had to nap in the guest room for hours. Always insist HE bring the fruit salad.

    <-( Gesyka says ;-)
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to say that I am thankful for Adam because he is whitty, funny, kind always has something great to share whether it is his music or philosophical viewpoint. Thank yuo for being a friend Adam!

    <-( Charlie says ;-)
Adam is a living testament to wunderkinds who don’t live up to their potential. He’s smart, affable, strums a guitar (pronounced gee-tar), rides a (motor) bike...he should have hordes of crazed women banging down his door. And yet he’s alone, day after miserable day. Sigh. So if you see Adam alone in a corner pouting over his misfortune, be kind and ask him if he knows your favorite Leonard Cohen (he probably does!) because I forgot to mention, he’s also an adept baritone.

    <-( AmyC says ;-)
Though Adam and I jokingly agree to disagree on just about everything, there may be a few things where we reach consensus. He's unusually funny, eerily brilliant, charmingly controversial and writes the best damn emails. Plus, he looks dashingly lovely in a teatime hat!

    <-( adam says ;-)
Adam will let anyone say whatever the hell they want about him here (the idiot). No filtering. He wants to know the honest truth even if it stings. EVEN IF IT ISN'T FUNNY. Scary.

    <-( Dave says ;-)
Adam is prototypical New York without the attitude and fast talking. What, that's all there is to New York? No, there's also the passion for insight, willingness to try almost anything, and ability to live in cramped spaces without gnawing the ear off your fellow hampsters. Actually, he may gnaw your ear off for a while, but it'll be enlightening... and if you bring up Steely Dan, it's your own damn fault.

    <-( James says ;-)
Adam is a madman! He also has amazing bowling technique! He shot the ball through his legs, from behind, for most of the evening and still managed to finish two games without requiring any medical assistance! :) He has amazing talent, ingenuity, and a sincere knack for looking at things in a very different and unique way. There will always be a place at my table for Adam. :) Cheers lad!
