Event Details Sancerre $35 or less Friday October 14, 2005 Broomfield 7PM Sancerre AC [sahn-SEHR] The Sancerre AC surrounds the village of Sancerre and thirteen others in the upper portion of France's LOIRE Valley. It's located 120 miles south and slightly west of Paris, where Sancerre white wines first gained a huge following before becoming international favorites. SAUVIGNON BLANC is the grape used for the white wines, which are generally produced in a CRISP, highly ACIDIC style with herb and gooseberry characteristics-very similar to those from the neighboring POUILLY-FUMÉ AC. The best white Sancerre AC wines come from the better producers in the villages of Bué, Chavigno, Ménétréol, and Verdigny and not from the village of Sancerre itself. Small amounts of red and ROSÉ wines are made from PINOT NOIR grapes, but most of these are rather LIGHT and not nearly as highly regarded as the white wines. Special instructions: Bring 1 bottle of the theme wine per person or couple, and some appetizers to share with the group. |
