Thanks Eric
that is so much better to read it that way. Way to go Yasmin and Amsterdam that is so awesome that you guys are going to help out and stuff. Really awesome :-)
big help!
Thanks Eric for the translation... I watched it again and it makes infinitely more sense :-) It's pretty amazing there's a show in Amsterdam about volunteering.
Translation
I took a pass at translating the video. Some of it I didn't catch very well so I just filled in the blanks.
Everyone: We're members of the Club of 100!
Yasmin: Hi, we're MEETinAMSTERDAM. We're a group of international friends. We can't skate very well, but we'd really like to do volunteer work so if you have anything for us, we'd love to hear it. We can't all speak Dutch, but there are group things where that wouldn't be a problem.
English
Yasmin: I spent a little time in San Francisco myself and, there, of course, I was a foreigner. Then you really want to meet people, and I'm not going to sit in the bar by myself. Then I came into contact with MEETinSANFRANCISCO, and when I came back, I thought, "Well, all that international contact was nice and there are so many international people living in Amsterdam. Let me give it a try." And then I started MEETinAMSTERDAM, and within one year more than 550 have joined, and it's really good.
English
Reporter: You guys got in touch with the Club of 100.
Yasmin: Yes
Reporter: Why?
Yasmin: Because it really didn't work, it in fact didn't work for us to find volunteer work because we ran up against the fact that we didn't all speak Dutch. My idea is there are a lot of things that aren't necessary for throwing things, or cleaning up gardens, or food banks or that sort of thing, but no we didn't get very far via the official channels.
Voice over: In fact, the expats want to tackle everything as long as there's something they can do as a group since that's enjoyable. Thus, if you need 40 hands somewhere, then surf over to the MEETinAMSTERDAM profile at www.clubvan100.nl.
for the non-dutch speaking people:
This tv show is called "de club van 100" and is about people who are willing to do something for someone else at no cost. They offer their help and sometimes ask for help in return. As our MEETin group would love to do some volunteerwork (incedental projects) we tried to find a good spot to offer our help, but we were always let down. Usually because hardly anyone speaks dutch. Yasmin sent a message to this tv show and they were very enthousiastic about what we wanted to do, so they filmed some of us at a skating event. Since then, several projects have been asking for our help. We will decide what to do in the very near future.
Hope this helped!
yeah, i agree
i was hoping they would tranlate it, too but all i could gather was they were asked where they were all from, cool none the less...we could always ask yasmin what she said, lol
A'dam on TV!
Wow! I am impressed! After spending New Years with a MeetIn crowd, I was surprised to see that I recognized a few people! You folks are terrific! What spirit!
