MEETinDC Assateague Island Camping Trip 05 Written By mIKEY 07/25/2005 click for full size This years Assateague trip was more than just a camping trip. It was a mini-vacation. Meet-in truly took over the island and claimed it as our own for the weekend. Highlights of the weekend include: the hilarious antics of my twin sister pretending to be me and fooling quite a few people… you know who you are. Friday night dinner of Pork roast and Cheesy potatoes. Sitting around the fire the Friday night, trying to rescue the fire from high tide on Saturday night. Ming and Viko’s Fire spinning. MiDCers letting loose with skinny dipping - sorry no photos were taken of this ;) . Mandy and Pete’s Turtle Raft that they shared with many of us. Building our home away from home out of tents and canopies. There’s so much more to say… check out the feedback below to see what everyone else is saying about the trip. Don’t forget to check out the Shenandoah trip August 26-28 for more camping Meet-in Style. More Photos |

Best Camping event I've ever attended. It was what I needed to loosen up a bit. And I never expected to have the great food that was presented. Great job and mucho kudos to Jamie and her team of "volunteers". I made a few new friendships and a lot of acquaintances. Sign me up for assisting with breakfast next year. |

Because of you, there was teamwork and excellent leadership, because of you, the food and beverages were abundant and delicious, because of you, there was shelter, from the tents you lent, because of you, so many people continued to smile and laugh throughout this super weekend. Thank You So MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!! |

"WOHOO!", thanks to nature, and to everyone who... Smiled all weekend, reminding me that either the world is wonderful or I'm uncommonly fortunate; Exposed themselves without reservation (most figuratively); Brought stuff for general use or consumption; Cooked, cleaned, and carried without quibble; Did something crazy that unexpectedly demanded a lungful of laughter; Dragged me into the water - it was well worth it each time; Compelled me to do silly-looking things on the beach; Said "umm, you're red.", and then applied sunscreen liberally; Cares for our environment so we can do it all again tomorrow; Is named Jamie, responded to the name Jamie in times of need, is related to someone named Jamie, or cares for someone named Jamie; |

This trip kicked Assateague I was exhausted, chewed up by mosquitos, and lost a contact lens, but I’d be happy to do it all over again! I certainly wasn’t hungry, thanks to the perfect planning by Jamie the Camping Queen! Thanks so much for making my first camping experience so awesome! I had to be dragged off the beach Sunday. So much fun with old and new friends on the beach, around the fire and at the picnic table. C-E-N-T-A-U-RS! |

thanks Jamie! Wow what a great time! From hangin' around the campfire at night to swimming and sun(burn)ing by day, this trip was awesome. I loved the ponies and deer roaming around, and the baby clams burrowing on the beach. Thanks Mike for the nature walk. Carmel, your photos are fantastic! Mandy and Pete, thanks for the ride and for indulging me in my blue crab urge on Sunday. Jamie and crew, thanks for making my first trip to Assateague so memorable! |

WoW, thanks! I know I said this exact same thing last year, but this time I mean it: "This was the best camping trip ever!" Jamie, you are a event planner goddess . I have no idea how you and your crew managed to pull this monsterous event off without any hitches, but you have amazed us once again. Everyone I talked to had a blast! Thanks so much for helping us escape from DC to the beach for a weekend of fun, friends and sun. Also, a big thanks for everyone who came together to make sure that all the camping chores were done, the cooking, the cleaning, the fire starting, the tent set-ups, the tent take-downs. The sharing of bug spray, suntan lotion, aloe, chairs, etc. All of this pulling together to help one another and make sure that everyone has a good time is what MiDC is all about. I can't wait for the next one! |

Awesome Trip What a weekend to remember! This must be the mother of all camping trip. I had so much fun crabbing with George and the gang. The nature walk with Mike as the guide is fantastic. I had learned so much about the action of the waves on the shoreline in just half-hour. The fire show by Ming and Viko is so unbeliveble to watch. It is a previlage to watch them performing the breath taking swirls and turns. My heart goes to Jamie for initiated and organized this awesome trip. I can only imagine what a tremendous effort she put into this trip. Please check out my photo of the weekend at: http://community.webshots.com/user/michaelngan |

Memories Many thanks to Jamie and her crew for helping initiate me into the world of camping. I come away from this trip with more than a sunburn and 40+ bug bites; I have new friends and many happy memories. The sunsets, sunrises, stars and moonrises were spectacluar. The water was the perfect temperature. Nightswimming with phospherescent plankton was out of this world. And you can't beat hangin' by a bonfire with cool peeps. I can still hear ocean waves ringing in my ears. |

Encore! Another year, another stellar trip to Assateague!! I'll always remember Friday night's swim in the ocean... trippin' out the natural way with help from our glow-in-the-dark plankton friends! Everything went so smoothly... the weather was impeccable... The Centaurs won Surivivor! Man, what more can you ask for?? But none of this coulda happened without the amazing planning that went into it. Jamie & Assoc. - you rock and roll! |

I'm hooked Jamie, it is all thanks to you. I can't imagine how you organized all of this and smoothed out all the bumps (including my own). Really just a great trip. I tip my cap to you. :) |

Awesome! Thanks to Jamie, Darcy, mom Baker and Kevin for organizing this trip. Assateague National Park is an awesome place---loved seeing the deer and wild horses. Friday nightswimming in the phosphorescent water was incredible, to be rivaled by Ming and Viko's fire dance the following night. It was great hanging out with everyone and spending some time with new friends. Though I'm happy to have my bed back, I will miss hearing the surf when I go to sleep tonight. Check out my pictures from this weekend. |

Camping is fun and this was the best!! what else can you say about this trip but that it was awesome. Jamie I do not know how you do it girl. You planed this baby so well it just amazed me. I mean how do you plan out feeding almost a 100 people on an island beach. Do not ask me ask Jamie. Just awesome is all I can say. Thanks for such a great weekend and I am ready to rsvp for next year now :-) |

All hail the camping queen!!! What a wonderful way to spend a weekend- perfect weather, wonderful friends, and such a well-organized operation. Many thanks to Jamie, Kevin, Darcy and Mrs. Baker for their organization, and to the whole gang for a great time. I shall now return to trying to remove all of the sand that somehow followed me home in my gear. |

Spectacular! Hats off to Jamie the Camping Queen for organizing yet another amazing camping experience and all her busy helpers for making it possible. It was a truly relaxing weekend: lazing on the sand, playing in the water, chatting with friends new and old, punctuated by moments of pure excitement such as during MEETinDC Survivor and Ming and Viko's fire dancing. I'm hooked and can't wait for Jamie's next camping adventure! Smack My Beach Up!!! |

Centuars fu$$king rule:-) I was glad I hung in there and didn't let my team down, You guys rock!!!!! absolutely perfect This was exactly what I needed. Friday night revelry was wonderful -- warm ocean, great food, phosphorescent creatures in the ocean. Saturday was perfect sun, refreshing swimming, Survivor, backgammon, and more good eating. Saturday night was unbelievable stars and a beautiful moonrise. And Sunday was just a nice day of solitude until departure. I managaed to forget about school, work, the ills of the world. And for that I extend my utmost thanks to the Baker clan and my fellow campers for a superfabulous summer escape! |
