MAY KICKBALLIN' (RESCHEDULED) Written By Anastasia 05/29/2009 click for full size
Kickball season is officially here! Woo Hoo!! And it’s not just for kids anymore.
What used to be a children's game has now become a game for the eternally young grown-ups - it truly has become a phenomenon. The Kickball’s appeal is its simplicity. Very similar to baseball in that there are bases, five innings, but with the playground twist in the form of the big, red rubber ball that players must kick before running the bases. It is something everyone can play. There are various rules, and all rule variations should be discussed prior to the game to avoid any permanent friendship endings (which usually last hmm after two drinks)... First time co hostess greeted fellow peeps, on a beautiful spring day. The sun was out, the grass was green, and the smell of red rubber balls was in the air. We had an excellent turn out despite the fact it was rescheduled, and on Mother’s day...And like the fabled children’s story Goldilocks and the three bears...the first field we tested was too lumpy, the second field was too muddy and wet, the third field was JUST right... It was an extremely nail biting, spectacular game, with some awesome plays. Even the passer by’s were stopping to see the excitement and join in rooting on the teams. There were great slides, dives, and swift ball dodging. Breakout superstars were Maggie on first base, Sara on second base, Tony’s pitching, Todd’s outta there kicked ball, Giambi’s (aka Ansalette) clutch grab from third base...and the painfully beautiful catching of Superman’s ball (aka Will) will go down in the history books, as the sweetest play ever...oh, yeah! Team A was victorious with the first game with an ending score of 7-3. Team W took game two with a score of 4-2...No major injuries to report. Woo Hoo!!! Winner, Winner, chicken dinner...or rather fajita’s and margaritas at Chevy’s restaurant was had by all after the game...Kickball events just gets better and better. A special shout out to Todd and Liz who came to their first Meetin event. We hope to see you both at future events. Angel, thanks for the additional photos. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story. xoxo More Photos

Despite what it might look like I wasn't stuck in a cage. I did have to sit out playing due to an injury but the crew was entertaining the watch. I can't wait to get back on the field though. It is hella fun. |

I LOVED IT!!! I Can't wait for more Kickball events, you guys. I am so glad Meetin' is invloved in this fantastic sport. It's fun, and anyone can do it! I had a great defensive play that I'm so proud of (thanks to Maggie on first base for keeping her foot on the bag, and pulling down my catch-N-Flip) See everyone---and OTHERS---next time. I can't wait! |

If only kiddie kickball was this fun ..I hated kickball as a kid, seriously, the dirt and getting smacked by a big red ball. It sucked, this game however rocked, from the raucous sideline shenanigans to the good natured competition to the well deserved late lunch after. Had fun peeps, you guy's will definitely see more of me at these games.. Giambi aka Ansalette |
