Event Hosted By Yusef Link To Event Start slideshow A Sunday Trip to the National Air and Space Museum Written By Yusef 01/28/2009 click for full size I must say, the National Air and Space Museum is one of my favorite museums in DC. Yes the ultra fast, badass looking, planes all over the place have something to do with it, but its also cool to take a trip through history of aviation, realizing how much its changed our world. Besides there is no football this Sunday, so what else are we going to do! Five MeetinDC'ers, and one MeetinPittsburgh-er met up underneath the large glider looking thingie above the information desk. After spending a while wondering how two people could have spent any significant amount of time in that tiny fuselage, we were off to get our learn on! We learned all about the spy plane business, from the birth of military aviation during WWI, to the recon satellites of today. We previewed the future of aviation, and space exploration, though interactive displays (and a very entertaining thermal imaging camera!). We wow'ed at a model of the Wright brother's Flyer. We perused all the stuff that the Apollo astronauts took with them into space, and a suit vest that was of some importance that at least I couldn't ascertain. We got up close and personal with the engine off a Saturn V rocket (well one of 5 engines!), relived the Battle of Britain, and when the Allies took the war to Germany. We got to experience what its like to launch an aircraft off a modern carrier, and poked our heads into the cockpit of a 747. and of course, we visited the Museum toy store afterward :) Thank you all for coming out, this was definitely a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Pete	So much fun I had to stop in the Annex by the airport on Monday on my way back to Pittsburgh. Well worth it. If you go better car-pool - its $12 parking. Oh, and go Steelers! :-)
