    About Me

I was born in Seoul, South Korea; my family lived there until the summer of 1984 when I was seven; my adoptive parents were Lutheran missionaries in Korea. From Seoul we moved to Madison, WI.

My musical studies began with my dad on the piano when I was five, but regrettably, I didn't keep it up. I've played the viola since the age of nine when my mom said I couldn't carry a cello home from school.

I studied for my Bachelor of Music degree in Viola Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with Sally Chisholm of the Pro Arte Quartet, a great teacher and performer. During the last two years of college and for a little while afterward I worked for Instructional Communications Systems at UW-Extension. Then Sept. 11th happened and I moved to Chicago.

After I found a part time job at the Program of African & Asian Languages at Northwestern University, I taught elementary and middle school strings classes in the Chicago public schools with a company called Music House on Chicago's Devon Ave. and played viola with the Noyes St. Quartet and with orchestral ensembles at Northwestern. The university hired me on full time and so I switched to teaching private lessons part time.

I've just finished my MS in Computer Information Systems at Northwestern. I live in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood, which is just east of Koreatown, with my cat, a family of budgies, and numerous plants.

    Why I joined

I joined the site to explore the city and meet other interesting Chicagoans.

My Best MEETin event story ( please only fill in after you have been to an event )

The first camping trip of Summer 2006 is at the top of the list.

contrary to popular belief, i do not have a financial stake at the parrot bar. the birds on my shoulder would make you think otherwise. with a little arm twisting, i can be persuaded to grab a drink or 2. -bof
