food and drink, photography, books, music, current events, travel, martial arts (aikido) |

classic rock, Latin- those are my favorites, but I'm not too picky |
Favorite Books
Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, The Onion's Finest News Reporting Vol. 1, Song of Ice and Fire Series, House of the Spirits, Ficciones (by Borges), currently working on reading Don Quijote in Spanish when I feel up to it, which unfortunately is not nearly often enough to really be bragging about it |

Not watching much live these days, just DVDs thanks to my fuzzy reception. I recommend Friday Night Lights and 30 Rock DVD sets of the first seasons. |

About Me
I'm originally from a small town, but I've been lucky to have some interesting travel experiences the past few years and hope to keep traveling. I would like to be able to visit all the continents of the world (including Antarctica!) during my lifetime.
During my free time, I am likely practicing aikido or at home cooking or reading a book. I also try to practice my Spanish when I can, since what I use at work is limited to pretty much the same topics. My life isn't always exciting, but I do what I can to make it interesting.

Why I joined
I was looking for an easy way to learn about events going on around town and meet new people.
I'm still with the group because a good number of the people I've met so so far are fun and have been good friends to me. |
My Best MEETin event story ( please only fill in after you have been to an event )
Hiking at Castle Rock State Park
Ask me about how I defended the group from nosy old farmers driving down the road near the John Deere Historic Site by explaining to them that I was originally from a nearby town but all the rest of them were "from Chicago" along with derogatory hand gesturing.
Meetin Valley Wine Tasting
I'm glad everyone had a good time and enjoyed testing out their wine "sales" skills and enjoying various types of wines from around the world. I'm hoping to do another party soon, maybe wine-themed, maybe just a plain old blowout and/or keg party (if I can come up with an ice bucket for the keg).
Halloween House Party 2007
Thanks to the 30-some people who showed up to drink and wander around my apartment in costume. I hope you had a great time. I am still enjoying all the pictures of people being silly drunks and trying on each other's wigs and/or headgear. There was still some beer around, so that's why I did a New Year's Party as well.

Groovy Chick Alert!

Laura is awesome! She throws the best 'house parties' and has great taste in movies. She also tells the best travel stories--so if you get her in a talkative mood, make sure to ask about her latest trip.
Warning--her sense of humor tends toward the sarcastic, so if you like to trade wits--she's the one to be around!

I don't know why I haven't given Laura a testimonial sooner! Laura is fun, easy to talk to, and had an awesome Halloween party! She was great as the not too Grim Reaper! All that aside, I've enjoyed seeing her at every event where we crossed paths.

We could all use some of Laura's tough girl she-wolf / don't mess with me attitude. Laura's been there, done that. She's great at hosting events and coming to support yours, which is a necessity to making things at meetin work. She's been host of a variety of cool events like the Sunday Slam at the Green Mill, and the Neighborhood Bar Night at Driftwood. She was a great addition to the August 2006 camping trip. I'm really looking forward to her next event. Thanks, Laura, for your meetin spirit!
