Donation update 4th scavenger hunt
The 4th annual scavenger hunt has been very successful, thanks to all of you great people who participated. It's been a few weeks now, and Joanna, Michael and I thought it was time for a little update. We raised a marvelous amount of 500 euro. This money has been completely donated to ‘Het Lindenhofje’, a children's hospice in the Jordaan.

Today, we went to the hospice to hand over the money and to get a tour of the facility. We were very impressed and touched, and we wanted to share some of the information that we received. Up to 10 children in the ages of 0 to 18 can live at the hospice at the same time. They all have their own bedroom, and there is a large communal living room. The place is unique in its kind and very needed. There are many facilities for handicapped children and for sick children, but not for sick children who became handicapped due to their illnesses (the kind of children who stay here). These children need intensive medical care and often stay at hospitals, even though that's not the right environment for them. At ‘Het Lindenhofje’, those children will get all the (medical) care and love they need in a child friendly home, surrounded by volunteers, registered nurses and other loving people. Some will stay there for a few months, some for a few years, and others only for a weekend so the parents can have some time off. Unfortunately, this facility is not fully government funded, which makes the future uncertain. Funds are secured until 2011, what happens after that is not sure yet.

With our money, they will buy things for the children, such as special toys, entertainment, and things that will allow them to be a child, so they can forget their illness for a little while. They were very happy with our donation, and we believe that it will be well spend.

As we were leaving the facility, we were wondering if there is something else we can do for them. If any of you are interested in volunteering or if you have ideas about things we can do for 'Het Lindenhofje', please let us know.

Glad you like my idea :-)
I don't have time to do volonteer work for them but collecting at one of my events(or other events) would be nice and easy at all several meetin activities. The amount to donate can be left open, no mininum required.
The Christmans charity event is the big job though...so lets ALL start working on it!
LOCATION:...any tips?? (it could be a borrel not neccessary a party)
HOSTS: At least 3 One for the list, one for the payments and another for organisation and coordination.

Yes, I did offer to cook for them. But at this moment they said there is not much we can do. We'll keep in touch about it though.

I recall us having a conversation about offering to cook for them. Did you get a chance to chat to them about this when you popped round with Jo? I'm sure between us we can come up with a World Cuisine evening.

Thanks, Carlotta and Lisa! I've offered them our help, and they will let me know when and if they can use our helping hands. Carlotta, I love your idea of a Christmas charity event, let's brainstorm on that. I'll try to find a list of (similar) local charities.

Maybe we can even plan a day of volunteer work on which people can choose between different projects at local organizations. Let's see if more people are interested.

To be continued :-)

Glad you posted this. I was actually looking into children's charities in Amsterdam over the weekend to do some kind of volunteer work in conjunction with the Christmas holiday. Let me know if you need help organising something.
